Should You Hire Logo Designer Or Do It Yourself ?

For your new or growing business, a logo can be one of the most painful but ultimately rewarding investments you can make. When it comes to designing a logo, there are many ways to go about it. Design software available allows you to create a DIY logo. The internet has made it possible to find designers of almost all levels and experience. Which would you choose? Let's take a look at both -

Design it yourself!

Do-it-yourself is one of our primal instincts to get something that is considered important or reflects our personality. When developing, starting and finishing something, there is a "need" to experience pleasure, pain and the resulting satisfaction.

The DIY option (if my dad's sunken barn made out of wood and some nails is any indication) is probably not the best way to design your own logo unless you understand some design and engineering basics. The desire to create your own logo is certainly understandable. No one will ever know your business as well as you - the services you provide, the products you produce are your 'babies'. Armed with this in-depth knowledge, there's a good chance you'll come up with some pretty good design concepts or ideas

—if you have a creative flair. If you're new to graphic design, chances are you'll create a design that only you understand, or worse, look amateurish in this age of over-the-top branding and marketing. Your logo needs to stand out in a competitive market, look professional and make your audience feel your love for your day-to-day business activities.

Can you handle this rather scary challenge? Maybe. Even if you manage to jot down a clever idea on a napkin, how do you make it your new logo? It requires knowledge of different file formats, color systems and resolution issues, which may sound like technical talk to non-designers, but are essential when using a new logo on a business card, letterhead or website.

You may have started with Design Eye, but it takes the skills, talents and skills you've learned to create a technically correct logo from a baby doodle form. Don't get me wrong, I don't doubt anyone's ability to conceptualize the origins of a decent logo. I'm just saying that going from nuts to soup isn't that easy - especially if you want that knockout mark - and it's really unlikely on your first try. This brings us to the next option, hiring an expert.

Hire a designer

There are currently a large number of professional designers available both locally (although checked in the Yellow Pages) and online. Any designer with good experience will have a website with some examples of their previous work so you can appreciate what they have created for other business owners like you. If their style is compatible with the image you are trying to portray. Remember that just because someone calls themselves a designer doesn't necessarily mean they have the right experience and talent. It's best to hire someone who has demonstrated strong skills

- ask to see a portfolio of their previous design work and a sample logo. Experienced designers will be happy to share their design "war stories". Once you choose the right designer, they can take your cocktail napkins to the next level. When you are part of the creative process as a customer, it is always profitable

-the development of your logo in the logo should be considered important. Most designers will welcome your approximate thoughts as they try to understand how you will use the new logo. They'll even suggest new design options you might not have thought of.

Once the images of the new logo are complete, an experienced designer will ensure that a properly formatted file and logo format is delivered. It will prepare you for replication contingencies as you go about your marketing and advertising tasks.
